Parenting Matters Mediation
Focused on children. Guided by care.
Mediation that Matters provides a respectful space for parents to have a safe and structured discussion to work toward practical, future-focused solutions for co-parenting matters.
Mediation allows you to save time and legal costs, maintain greater control over the outcome, reduce stress and conflict, and reach solutions that are tailored to your own family circumstances.
Child-Focused
Keeping children at the heart of every decision
At the heart of every family matter is the wellbeing of the children. A child-focused approach keeps their needs, stability and emotional safety at the centre of all discussions.
A child-focused lens encourages parents to look beyond conflict and consider what will best support their children to feel secure, connected and able to thrive — both now and into the future.
Recent changes to the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) place a stronger and clearer emphasis on considering the views of children in parenting matters. Where appropriate, children are given the opportunity to express their perspectives, and these views are taken into account in a way that reflects their age, maturity and level of understanding.
This does not mean that children are asked to make decisions. Rather, it ensures their experiences, feelings and needs are properly heard and respectfully considered when arrangements are being made that affect their lives.
Parenting Plans
Focused on children. Clarity for parents.
A Parenting Plan is a "goodwill" written agreement between parents that sets out arrangements for the care and wellbeing of their children. Safety and wellbeing of the children is paramount.
Mediation that Matters can assist parents to develop a Parenting Plan through structured discussions, helping to ensure that arrangements are clear, workable and focused on the needs of their children.
While not legally enforceable like court orders, Parenting Plans are recognised under family law and can provide a clear and practical framework for parenting arrangements.
A Parenting Plan may include:
- Where the children will live
- Time spent with each parent
- Health, wellbeing and safety of the child/ren
- Schooling and education
- Communication between parents and children
- Holiday and special occasion arrangements
- Any other matters relevant to the child's care
